Chickpeas take on a wonderful nutty flavour when roasted and it just seems to work well with whatever spice, herb, or sauce that you add! Roasted chickpeas (or garbanzo beans) are tasty and healthy. They are high in good fibre and healthy protein, which makes them filling and keeps you fuller for longer. You can make them either sweet or savoury and here are four flavour suggestions.
Open the can of chick peas, tip into a sieve and rinse for a few seconds under running water, shake the sieve gently to shake off any excess water and tip chick peas out onto a tea towel to dry. While the chick peas are drying, pre-heat the oven to 150 degrees celsius, get out a flat oven tray and line with a sheet of baking paper or tin foil. Mix up your favourite flavour and spread out evenly on the tray, place in the oven and cook for 45 minutes. Turn off the oven and leave to cool in the oven for extra crunch. Enjoy!
For this recipe, I’m sharing my current faves - one sweet and three savoury:
Honey and Cinnamon Flavour - Can of chick peas, half a teaspoon of cinnamon and honey
BBQ Honey Flavour - Can of chick peas, sprinkle of salt / pepper and three tablespoons of BBQ Honey Sauce
Dijon Honey Flavour - Can of chick peas, sprinkle of salt / pepper and three tablespoons of Dijon Honey Dressing
Sticky Honey Flavour - Can of chick peas, sprinkle of salt / pepper and three tablespoons of Sticky Honey Marinade
