FAQ Honey Questions

What does 'raw' honey mean?

Raw honey is the unpasteurized version of commonly used honey and only differs in its filtration, which helps extend its shelf life. Raw honey is more delicious and beneficial for your health.

What does 'polyfloral honey' mean?

Polyfloral honey, also known as wildflower honey, is derived from the nectar of many types of flowers. The taste may vary from year to year, and the aroma and the flavor can be more or less intense, depending on which bloomings are prevalent.

What does 'cold filtered honey' mean?

'Cold filtered honey' is honey that has been filtered using nothing but a fine sieve and absolutely NO HEAT and because of this it's extremely beneficial with natural pollen, amino acids and enzymes still intact. Honey eaters love raw honey, because it has more complexity and nuance in taste.

Why is honey considered so good for you?

Honey is a sweet food made organically by bees foraging nectar from flowers and what could be more delicious than something that comes straight from nature. The health benefits of honey are too numerous to be named, but here are a few key ones: alleviates allergies, excellent source of all natural energy, loaded with antioxidants, assists the body in absorbing calcium, cough suppressant, natural mood improver by releasing serotonin, antibacterial, anti-fungal and natural antibiotic that can act both internally and externally.

Are you the bee keepers and collectors of the honey you sell?

We work all our bee hives ourselves and everything is done by hand in the traditional way.

How many bee hives do you have?

Currently we have nearly one hundred bee hives which the two of us manage. The bee hives are in one location that is surrounded by large established native trees, field wild flowers and suburban flower gardens. This wonderful combination of nectar and pollen makes for a delicious natural multi-floral honey with a unique depth of flavour.

How is your honey taken from the bee hives?

We value and care for the bees and carefully extract the natural raw honey with the least disturbance as possible. We uncap the honey frames and spin the honey out in a way that hasn't changed for thousands of years.

Do you add heat, water or sugar syrup to your honey?

We prefer to do things the old fashioned way when it comes to our yummy raw honey and definitely DO NOT add any heat, water or sugar syrup. Just a beautiful product spun straight off the bee hives and direct to you to enjoy.

My honey has a different taste each time I buy it, why is that?

Our delicious pure raw honey comes straight from nature and is influenced by the flowers that are in season and where the bees have flown when collecting nectar from flowers.

Does honey ever go off?

Honey is one of those magical products that never goes off. It is rumoured that a pot of honey was found in King Tut's tomb by Howard Carter and it was still OK to eat, so Howard decided to have it on his crumpets for breakfast.

The honey I purchased has gone crunchy, what should I do?

Please don't think that you honey has gone off if it has gone crunchy. It has not gone off as honey never goes off. It's a naturally occurring process which happens if the bees have visited clover flowers. Quality honey can be crystallised in the jar, which is actually a good thing. It shows that the honey you are buying has not been watered down or overheated and filtered.
